John and Jane Fain Make Gifts to Support the Y's Future

John and Jane Fain are longtime supporters of the YMCA OF GREATER RICHMOND. John began as a volunteer on the annual campaign for the Tuckahoe Family YMCA then later led the Tuckahoe and Association Boards. Every year Jane participates in back-to-school shopping trips for YMCA Bright Beginnings.

John, whose career spans leadership roles with McGuireWoods, Overnite Transportation, and UPS, says the Y played a key role in his ability to serve the community and also added great value to his family. "When my children were younger, every Friday night after traveling much of the week, I'd take the kids swimming at the Y and then to Pizza Hut. That's one of my children's and my favorite memories. The Y allowed us to spend more time together as a family."

Those special memories inspired John and Jane to not only become volunteers with the YMCA but donors, too. Their most recent gift to the For All. For Good. Comprehensive Campaign will fund renovations at the Petersburg, Northside, and Manchester Family YMCAs as well as the endowment. The Fains have also made a financial commitment through a gift in their will. "I've always thought the YMCA was one of the best-positioned organizations to break the cycle of poverty. That's one of the main reasons we are so ardent about supporting the Y now and in the future," John says.

Jane agrees. "When you look back and see what [the Y] did for your family, why wouldn't you want to do that for someone else? If you can help another area family, that's what it's all about."
